Tradition is more than just a word, we consider it a commitment: for over 125 years, Scherenmanufaktur Paul produces premium-quality scissors according to traditional artisan methods.

The Solinger cutler Karl Paul founds the family business in 1886. The company grows quickly and his employees, quite literally, develop a “special touch” for scissor grinding.

After the Second World War, the third generation of the Paul family moves the company to Harsefeld in Lower Saxony, where starting in 1948 the scissor blanks are ground on traditional grinder benches. The scissors are of such excellent quality that they are distributed worldwide to over 5000 shops within only a few years.
As a result of consistent innovation, Paul & Co. succeeds in becoming a technological leader in scissor manufacturing.
Technological breakthroughs are patented, for example in 1971, with the world’s first die-cut scissor made of 0.75 mm thick stainless steel – so-called narrow-strip remanit – with plastic handles made of cellidor. Still, even today each production step includes artisanry, which is supported by state-of-the-art precision instruments. All components are exclusively “made in Germany”.

The manufactory is still under owner-management and a large number of the 60 staff members have been working at the company for many years. For Scherenmanufaktur Paul, it is this mutual passion for making scissors that provides the best foundation for sustaining the tradition of German craftsmanship in the future.
